PURPOSE: To provide an easily controllable stopping device for a selecting lever, enabling only the start of the intended travel stage by designing a stopping member to be movable by a control member and be rotatably supported against the selecting lever, and causing three rolling elements to be clamped with the intervention of a rail during frictional engagement. CONSTITUTION: When a circuit is closed, a lifting magnet 14 moves from a releasing position to a stopping position, and when the circuit is closed a spring 25 returns a roll 22 to a departure position. When an ignition key is pulled out with an automobile stopped, a selecting lever 1 is locked in a P or N position by a stopping device. Then a stopping device 21 is in a stopping position, and the arrival to the stopping position is made possible only when a rail 9 is unobstructed by a control member 13 or the spring 25 because of elastic load and recess parts 10, 11 and the stopping member 2 is deflected upward in such a way as to be conveyed to an area between a support member 5 and the rail 9. While a brake pedal is being operated, an operating member 13 or the spring 25 accelerates the roll 22 to a non-stopping position, and the lever 1 can be moved to a travel position. |
