The heating spiral (1) is embedded in ceramic (2) under a relatively thin nonmagnetic and corrosion-resistant sheet metal cover (3). In the centre (4) a permanent-magnet plate (5) with interdigitated soft magnetic sections (6,7) exerts a pull of about 60 kg on the base of a cooking utensil, which can be lifted when the flux is short-circuited by manipulation of the slider (11). USE/ADVANTAGE - In "fast food" prepn.. Time and energy are saved in cooking small portions. Safety is enhanced with hotplate switched-on only under utensil, which cannot be dislodged by child.
