Electronic equipment of the type used in communication systems are constructed with a common housing framework that can be readily adapted for use as either a free standing unit or as a 19 inch rack mounted module. The frame is produced using profiled section material (18) that has 'T' slots (10) to receive captive nuts that fix plates in position. For the 19 inch rack mounted version side plates (4) are fixed in position together with angled section elements (13) that butt against the rack housing. Front plates (1) carry lifting handles. ADVANTAGE - Allows modules to be built for rack mounting or as free standing units.
