PURPOSE:To prevent the disturbance in the orientation direction of a liquid crystal generated by signal lines by using the method for orienting the liquid crystal to rub the liquid crystal by a cloth in the direction along the signal lines to switch picture elements. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal device formed by using high-polymer films consisting of polyimide, etc., is constituted of the S signal lines 1 and G signal lines 2 to switch the picture elements 3. The liquid crystal is oriented without being disturbed in the direction of an arrow b when the liquid crystal is rubbed by the cloth toward the arrow b along the G signal lines 2.
