摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain the magnetic recording medium having excellent traveling durability under a wide range of temp. and humidity conditions by using the branched fatty acid ester obtd. from methyl branched aliphat. acid specified in carbon atoms and branch position and branched or straight chain alcohol specified in number of carbon atoms as a lubricant. CONSTITUTION:The branched fatty acid ester compd. expressed by formula I is incorporated into the magnetic layer or is made to exist in the surface of the magnetic layer or is made to exist on a ferromagnetic metallic thin film. R<1> in the formula I is 1 to 17C satd. straight chain monovalent hydrocarbon group. R<2> is 1 to 17C satd. straight chain bivalent hydrocarbon group. R is 4 to 22C branched or straight chain monovalent hydrocarbon group. The total sum of the number of carbon atoms of R<1> and R<2> is >=10 to <=25.
