Fail-safe interlock for steering column lock - inhibits lock while vehicle is moving using speedometer input signal

The steering column is locked by a bolt (15) operated by a solenoid (AM) connected to a control switch (S1) which monitors the position of the ignition key. As the key is withdrawn from the lock the bolt drops into the steering column. In order to prevent the steering from being blocked when the key is withdrawn while the vehicle is still moving, a second switch (h) is connected in series with the system, and this switch is operated in conjunction with a speedometer input signal so that the blocking action is inhibited. The fail-safe interlock is simple and can be added to existing circuits.
