The control, for motors and drives etc., has higher efficiency and causes less noise in the supply network than existing controls, by supplying the load (22) continuously with half of full periods of the supply current or multiples of this period. A variable (15) and a fixed (14) current source are connected in series. A Schmitt trigger (18) is connected across the variable source which has its output shunted by a capacitor (19) and a diode (20). The Schmitt trigger controls a switch (21) in the motor's supply line and a temperature sensitive resistor controls the variable current source.
