By the addition according to the invention of compounds of magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium, such as the carbonates, oxides, carbides and fluorides of these metals not soluble in binder pitches to "green mixtures" of coal tar pitch cokes and binders therefor before the shaping of the mixtures thus produced, shaped coke bodies are obtained after the shaping and firing which do not have any or have only a very slight irreversible thermal expansion in the temperature range of 1400 to 2000 DEG C. |
