PURPOSE: To obtain a long life of an electrophotographic image forming member by forming a polymer blocking layer containing a specified copolymer and a silica gel and having specified or higher surface resistance. CONSTITUTION: This member is produced, for example, by oxidizing the surface of an Al vapor deposition layer 24 on a polyester film 22, forming a polymer blocking layer 26, and then forming a charge generating layer 28 and a charge transport layer 30 thereon. The layer 26 has about >10<10>Ω/sq surface resistance and is formed by applying a mixture containing a specified copolymer (A) and a silica gel and drying by heating. The component (A) consists of main chains having repeated hydrocarbon units and acid (deriv.) groups such as carboxylic acid as pendant side chains bonded to the main chain. For example, a copolymer of vinyl methyl ether and maleic acid anhydride can be used.
