<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the matrix display device with which the display defects by disconnections, short-circuiting, etc., are hardly generated by connecting respective picture element electrodes via two MIM elements to two scanning electrodes and interposing hard carbon films between 1st and 2nd conductors of MIM elements. CONSTITUTION:The MIM elements to constitute the matrix display device are formed by using the hard carbon films for the insulating film to be inserted between the 1st and 2nd conductors thereof. One of the characteristics of the hard carbon films is the vapor grown film and, therefore, the various properties thereof can be controlled over a wide range by the conditions of film formation and since the hard and thick films can be formed, the films are hardly susceptible to mechanical damages. Since the respective picture element electrodes 3 are connected via the MIM elements 2 to the two scanning electrode lines, charges can be injected to a liquid crystal layer through the normal scanning electrode line at the time of the disconnection in the element part and the scanning electrode line and, therefore, the disconnection does not lead to the defect. The defect by the short-circuiting in the element part can be corrected to the normal picture element.</p> |
