A brewing apparatus makes coffee by a drip method within a microwave oven. The brewing apparatus (10) includes a reservoir (14) for retaining a quantity of water for heating. The reservoir is positioned on and supported by a carafe (16). The carafe receives a quantity of brewed coffee therein. A basket (30) is positioned between the reservoir and the carafe for retaining coffee grounds. A U-shaped water transfer tube (40) is positioned within the reservoir having an inlet (48) adjacent to the bottom of the reservoir and an outlet (54) positioned externally of the reservoir. The application of microwave energy heats the water within the reservoir, initiating a pumping system that transfers the water from the reservoir (14) through the transfer tube (40). The water exhausted from the transfer tube is directed onto the coffee grounds within the basket (30). The brewed coffee, created by the contact between the heated water and the coffee grounds, passes from the basket into the carafe (16). |
