PURPOSE:To omit the manual input of a compression parameter and to ensure the integrated and automatic decision of the compression parameter by handling a parameter as both or one of functions of two types of gradation numbers. CONSTITUTION:The picture data collecting devices like the DR devices 5 - 7 usually set the picture data gradation number at the value necessary and enough to express the highest contrast of a subject picture. Therefore the ratio of the picture data gradation number approximately reflects the contrast ratio of the picture data that depends on a picture data collating device. Thus an error of the reproduced picture data can be set to a comparatively large value to the original picture data against the picture data having a high contrast. In this respect, the compression parameter related to the fidelity of a reproduced picture is decided as a function of the data gradation number. Thus it is possible to integratedly and automatically decide the compression parameter even when various picture data collating devices are handled. As a result, the manual input of parameters can be omitted. |
