The invention relates to a novel heat-stable syntactic foam comprising hollow microspheres and a binder, characterised in that the binder is based on a polystyrylpyridine or polystyrylpyrazine resin. The microspheres are made of glass, silica, ceramic or a synthetic material. The foam is prepared by dispersing the microspheres in the resin and hardening the whole by baking. A pre-bake may be carried out before the baking. The foam obtained can withstand high temperatures in continuous operation without losing its mechanical properties.
