PURPOSE: To evenly supply steam to a sheet material by supplying the steam from a manifold pipe to the sheet material before pressing between mirror finished surface rolls and soft rolls near the roll assembly of a calendering treatment apparatus. CONSTITUTION: The sheet material 12, such as paper, passes in an S-shaped form between plural stages of the mirror finished surface rolls 14 and the soft rolls 16 via idle rolls 18, and glossy surfaces are formed by the mirror finished surface rolls 14. The steam introduced into the manifold pipe 30 from an introducing pipe 32 is blown upward from plural bucket nozzles 62 toward the surfaces to be formed with the glossy surfaces of the sheet material 12 before pressing the sheet between these both rolls 14, 16 and the steam quantity thereof is controlled by a regulating valve 40. The drains in the manifold pipe 30 are discharge from drain holes 48. The steam is thus evenly supplied axially to the sheet material 12 without being accompanied by the water drops. The exacter control of the distribution of the properties of the sheet material is thus made possible.
