PURPOSE:To adapt the carbon fiber to a reinforcing material for a carbon fiber reinforced metallic composite material by coating a carbon fiber with boron and titanium contg. at least zinc chloride. CONSTITUTION:A carbon fiber is subjected to coating contg. at least zinc chloride among zinc chloride, boron, titanium, titanium boride and titanium carbide. The coated carbon fiber has high stability in coating and has good wettability with molten metal, by which a preform can be manufactured with good efficiency and a carbon fiber reinforced metallic material can be manufactured in an industrial scale. |
