AUTOMATIC VOLUME INCORPORATION PROCESSING SYSTEM FOR WORK PROGRAM

PURPOSE:To decrease the errors due to the intervention of an operator and the misoperations of the operator by informing a work program of the medium information and the device information via an OS when a medium is loaded. CONSTITUTION:At start of a business work, a work program gives a request to an OS to inform the message contents outputted to a console and stores this request. When a magnetic tape medium is loaded to a magnetic tape device, the OS knows that the medium is loaded from the information given from the tape device and reads the label of the loaded medium to acquire the information on the tape medium. Then the OS outputs this information and the device information showing the name of the tape device containing the tape medium. Thus three information are informed to the work program. The work program selects the messages showing the medium and device information out of those output messages of the device received the information. Then the OS performs an assignment process for a input/output device and the tape medium and a file opening process based on those information shown by the selected messaged. Thus the loaded tape medium can have an access to a file. Then the interventions of an operator can be decreased.
