HUMAN INTESTINAL MUCIN

DNA sequences encoding part of the polypeptide sequence of human intestinal mucin (HIM) have been isolated and characterized. These sequences may be expressed in procaryotes to produce unglycosylated HIM polypeptides or eukaryotes to produce glycosylated versions, all of which are suitable for raising antibodies and other uses. Moreover, the DNA has been used to characterize expression and genomic organization of the HIM gene family. Reagents based on these discoveries provide means for diagnosis and treatment of various biological disorders, such as cystic fibrosis and colon cancers.
