The alcohol content of a solution (36) can be determined by passing a gas into said solution from supply means (33, 34, 35), to remove at least a portion of alcohol as vapour, and passing the resulting gas/alcohol mixture over a sensor (31) adapted to determine the alcohol content in the mixture, and processing and displaying the results, the processor (41) receiving inputs determined by the alcohol content of the mixture, and ambient temperature and humidity.
