TWO STROKE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

A two stroke internal combustion engine including at least one piston (6) supported for reciprocal travel in the engine. Piston (6) has an internal reservoir (9), a first piston section (7) supported within power cylinder (4) and a second piston section (8) operably connected to first piston section (7) and supported within compressor cylinder (5). First and second piston sections (7, 8) reciprocate in unison within their respective cylinder (4, 5). Gas inlet means (29) are provided to allow inlet gas to be drawn into compressor cylinder (5) during the power stroke of the engine, the inlet gas being subsequently compressed during the compression stroke of the engine. Gas passage means (16) direct the inlet gas compressed in compressor cylinder (5) through valve means (15) to reservoir (9). Transfer means (18, 19) release the compressed inlet gas from reservoir (9) into power cylinder (4) at or near the end of the power stroke of the engine.
