The machine incorporates a supply chain 2 which individually advances the product 7 on which acts, laterally, a device 7 for introducing said product towards a continuous-bag former, in which a tube 13 is involved, coaxial with the introducer 7 and assisted in its opening by a pair of forming plates 14, cutting and welding mechanisms being located to the sides of the tube 13 for shaping the continuous bag from two sheets, and the machine being completed with a pair of diaphragms 30 which are capable of constricting the continuous bag between each pair of adjacent lettuces, by means of plates actuated by cylinders 32, a connecting rod 40 acting between the pair of diaphragms 30 and said connecting rod transmitting the movement to two conventional mechanisms for closure or "tying" with adhesive tape and to an intermediate cutter for separating the bags into individual bags. <IMAGE>
