The drinks can has a quick opening tear-off strip with a tear or split line which partially defines a part of the top. The cover can have at least two tear lines, one either side of the top not in line with each other. Each of the two tearing edges is at most seventy per cent of the thickness of the top, and the tearing edge is provided with a sealing cover layer on the side of the cover which points towards the inside of a finished can. The remaining thickness of material (3) in the case of aluminum is approximately 90 micro meters and 30 micrometers in the case of steel.
