发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL ELECTROOPTICAL DEVICE AND DISPLAY METHOD THEREOF
摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the high-speed and precise color display device by providing a cell for a light source to make the light of a light source into red, green and blue on the outside of a cell for display interposed with a ferroelectric liquid crystal between substrates having transparent electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The display cell 20 interposed with the ferroelectric liquid crystal and the cell 30 for the light source interposed with a TN type liquid crystal are disposed as shown in figure. The light from the light source 40 passes a polarizing plate 43 and color filters 33 and is thereby made into the colors of the respective filters. The liquid crystal 34 existing in the upper part of the green and blue filters is turned off to absorb the light by the polarizing plate 42 at the time of displaying the red. Only the liquid crystal 34 existing in the upper part of the red filter is simultaneously turned on to allow the light to pass through the polarizing plate 42. The light is diffused by the substrate 31 and the entire part of the cell 30 displays red at this time. Only the picture elements requiring the red of the cell 20 synchronized with the cell 30 are turned on. The light is changed in the polarization state by the liquid crystal 24 and is passed through the polarizing plate 41 on the upper side of the cell. The similar display is thereafter executed with the green and blue as well.
