The agriculture, particularly in the countries around the Baltic, is faced with severe losses due to pyogenes mastitis, which prevents many heifers from becoming profitable milking cows. Vast amounts have been spent on fighting and preventing the disease, but so far without real success. The disease is caused by a certain fly, which seeks easily digestible protein in the relevant areas of attack, viz. the teat tips. Rather than physically shielding the teats or just fighting the flies by insecticides the invention provides for an attractive artificial source of protein for the flies, and due to a special behaviour of the fly this source, constituted by containers (6) holding a viscid protein substance in a mixture with an allurement and an insecticide, can be conveniently carried by the animal, secured to a collar belt (2). When the flies can satiate themselves at the artificial source they will be less tempted to visit the teats at all.
|
