Electro-optical multiple segment display - monitors potential drops of display segments contg. diode strands for individual segment fault detection

An electrooptical multiple segment display (D) contains a combination of parallel connected strands (s) of electrooptical sources, esp. light emitting semiconducting diodes (2) in series. Each segment (Si) is controlled from a display circuit via a constant current source (4i) with a current monitor circuit (7i). The monitor circuit produces fault information if a strand develops a fault. It monitors potential drops i.e. the resultant summation current potential drop of a segment's parallel connected strands. USE/ADVANTAGE - For large area, remote indication of changing information. Faults in individual segments of display are detected before entire display fails.
