4-Aminobutyric acid derivs. of formula (I) are prepd. by catalytic reduction of (II), or reaction of (III) and R1COOH. In the formulas, R1 is linear or branched C1-8 alkyl; R2 is a gp. which can be removed by the catalytic reduction. (I) may be used as medicine for improving cerebralmetabolism and higher order cerebral function.
