A wheel-chair for lifting and transporting patients that are unable to move has a frame provided with brakable wheels and a liftable and lowerable bearing structure mounted in the frame and capable of being converted both in a chair and in a bed. The bearing structure (8) is pivotably mounted around a vertical axis at the front part of the frame (1) on a lifting stool (15) capable of moving on an inclined guiding path formed by guiding rails (7). The lifting stool (15) is supported by the bearing rollers (14) of an articulated lever mechanism capable of being moved by a pneumatic work cylinder (11). As an energy source for the work cylinder (11) at least a high pressure gas bottle (25) is incorporated, which drives in addition the braking cylinder (30) of an immobilising safety brake. The braking cylinder (30) is incorporated between two brake arms (40) that are pressed by tension springs against parallel brake truss bars (42) arranged on both sides of secured to and movable with the piston rod (43) of the work cylinder (11) that moves the lifting stool (15).
