A PROCESS FOR PREPARING A NAPHTHALENE DERIVATIVES

(A) Prepn. of naphthalene derivs. of formula (I), or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts, comprises (i) reacting a benzaldehyde deriv. of formula (II) or its di-lower alkyl acetal, with an acetylene of formula (III) to give (I); and opt. (ii) converting (I) into its pharmaceutically acceptable salt. R1 and R2 = lower alkyl; one of R3 and R4 = H or lower alkoxy; the other = lower alkoxy; ring A = opt. susbtd. R5 = hydroxy protecting gp.;/lower = 1-6C. (B) Cpds. (II) and their di-lower alkyl acetals are new.
