A wire unwinding machine, esp. for feeding a stranding or plying machine, has a table for the cylindrical coil of wire, surrounded by a flyer with a lifter roller and deflection rollers. The flyer is supported on the same column as the table. Pref. the frame (10) has on the base plate (11) a column (13) for the wire coil table (14). A coaxial mandral (15) centres the cylindrical wire coil (16). The hub (18) of the flyer (19) is also supported on the column (13). Its lift-off roller (22) guides the wire (34) to the deflection rollers (35,36,37,39,44) and to the individualising bars (45). A jockey pulley (33) guides the wire to the next processing stage.
