1-alpha,25-Dihydroxy-26,27-dimethylcholecalciferol of formula (I), is prepd. (I) may be prepd. e.g. by U.V. irradiation of 26,27- dimethylcholesta-5,7-diene-1alpha, 3beta, 25-trio. (I) is high activity low toxicity analogue of the hydroxylated physiologically active form of vitamin D3, used in treatment of Capathobilism and osteoporosis at dose e.g. 25-400 (50-200) ng/day. (I) has strong vitamin D3 activity with low toxicity. Useful for treatment of diseases with abnormal calcium metabolism and osteoporosis.
