The appts. includes a movable optical head (2) for writing and/or recording information on and/or from a recording medium by irradiation with a light beam. A first demodulating circuit (20, 23) is connected to the head for performing reproduction and demodulation of data. An arrangement (11,12) is provided for detecting that the head has attained a given position located within the appts. and a second demodulating circuit (24) is provided to decode control parameter information recorded on the medium but differing from the data. Driving circuitry (33,35) is connected to the head for establishing optical conditions for recording or reproduction of the data on the basis of the decoded control parameter information.
