The refrigerant circuit of an air-conditioning system, especially an air-conditioning system for a motor vehicle, is cleaned in the following way. The refrigerant circuit of the air-conditioning system (28) is connected to the refrigerant circuit of the maintenance apparatus by a compressor (11) and if required, a vacuum pump (19). The refrigerant is removed completely from the air-conditioning circuit and passed through a filter (5) an evaporator (8) and then to a collector tank (4) which is equipped with an oil separator (24). The refrigerant then flows to a filler tank from which it is returned to the air-conditioning system. USE - Maintenance of air conditioning systems without causing harm to the environment.
