Oxidn. hair dye contg. 1,3-di:ethyl-2,5-di:aminobenzene - as developer, producing stable, deep shades and physiologically well tolerated

Oxidn hair dye compsn contains at least one coupler and as developer, 1,3-diethyl-2,5 -diaminobenzene (I) or its physiologically aceptable water-soluble salt. (I) and the coupler (II) are each 0.01-3 wt.%, totalling 0.1-6 (pref. 0.5-4) wt.%, and the compsn. has pH 8-11.5. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) provide deep colours which are more stable than those from known developers, esp. when using couplers which give dark blue shades. It is not mutagenic in the Ames test and causes no sensitisation by topical or intradermal application. Compsns. contg. (I) are storage stable and provide shades (blond, brown, purple, violet, blue, black depending on components) of good fastness to light, washing and rubbing, but removable by treatment with reducing agents.
