An appliance for preparing hot drinks, such as tea, coffee or the like has a housing which accommodates a fresh water container (14). The outlet of the housing is connected to a heating device (17) which supplies the hot water to a filter container containing the substance (34) to be treated such as ground coffee or the like. A collecting container, i.e., cup, is place on a foot (21) below the outlet. The filter container is a carrousel (30) with several filter containers provided with outlet openings. The carrousel is rotatably mounted and can be adjusted together with its filter holders (31), in sequence, over the cup (22) placed on the foot. A predetermined quantity of substance appropriate to the volume of the cups can be introduced into each filter holder. The quantity of hot water dispensed is adapted to the volume of the cup by means of a control device (29). Each cup of hot drink can be freshly prepared. To this end, the hot water can pass through a rising pipe into an outlet in the filter holder of the carrousel placed over the cup; the carrousel is rotatably mounted on the rising pipe (20) by means of a bearing bushing (28) and is covered by a housing lid (23) which is provided, on the face nearer the carrousel, with annular recesses (24) and sealing rings (25) and which tightly seals the individual filter holders; and the housing lid has a perforation (36) in the region above the cup, through which the gripping recesses (35) on the edge of the carrousel project.
