Contaminated water is purified by filtration, straining of the water, collection of partially purified water from the filter, heating of the collected water at a temperature close to its boiling point, followed by a second pass of the collected water through the same filter, and continuous repetition of these filtering, collecting and heating stages, with subsequent additional purifications, until the degree of contamination falls below a predefined level. An apparatus for processing by the aforementioned method includes a receptacle (60) with a filter (64) placed at its top, and a removable cover (63), set on top of the receptacle and can also include a steam deflector (100) for supplying a more uniform flow of small quantities of water and vapours at the inlet of the filter. An electrical resistance heater is incorporated (52), as well as a vertical pipe, which can transport small quantities of liquid water and their vapours from the heater to the filter. The vertical pipe is externally fixed to the receptacle and includes a mechanical pump (53). A control system (111) can be provided for automation of the purification cycle and an additional storage receptacle (126) can also be incorporated for an essentially continuous output flow. |
