A magnetic tape cassette, comprising a casing (1) enclosing first and second reel hubs (4a,4b) adapted to have a magnetic tape (7) wound thereabout; a first portion (3) of said casing having first and second reel shaft insertion apertures (5,6) having the first and second reel hubs (4a,4b) respectively residing therein and a marginal cut-out portion (3a) through which the magnetic tape may be withdrawn from the cassette; and sliding plate means (10) provided on the first portion (3) and freely slidable between first and second positions thereon, such that, in the first position of the sliding plate means (10), said cut-out portion (3a) is exposed for receiving tape withdrawing means and, in the second position, the sliding plate means (10) covers the cut-out portion (3a).
