PURPOSE:To form an image excellent in fixability on a medium to be recorded by successively laminating an ink layer and a specific heat-softening layer to a support. CONSTITUTION:An ink layer 2 supplying ink by a thermal head and a heat- softening layer 3 releasable at every definite area and transferable along with the colorant supplied from the ink layer are successively laminated to a support 1. A medium 5 to be recorded and this thermal transfer recording medium 4 are brought to a close contact state using a platen and, subsequently, heat is imagewise applied to the ink layer 2 from the rear of the support corresponding to image data by the thermal head. By this method, the adhesive strength of the heat applied part of the ink layer 2 and the heat-softening layer 3 becomes higher than that of the heat non-applied part of the ink layer 2 and the heat-softening layer 3 and, at the time of the separation of the ink layer and the heat-softening layer, at least a part of the heat applied part of the ink layer is transferred to the heat-softening layer and the heat-softening layer 3 having an image 6 is transferred to a part of the medium 5 to be recorded, for example, plain paper. The heat non-applied ink layer remains on the support. |
