For provision of an indicator in head straps for breathing masks which indicates an optimally tight fit of the mask on the head of the wearer, the head straps (2 to 5) each have a projecting marker (7) which protrudes from the straps and is arranged transversely relative to the traction direction of the straps in the vicinity of the occiputal part (6). This projection may have, for example, an elliptical shape. On tightening the straps (2 to 5) the ellipse changes into a circle. This indicates that the mask fits tightly. <IMAGE>
