Methods are provided for facilitating the harvest of food crops by applying to the crop foliage an amount of an aqueous solution containing a combination of urea and sulfuric acid in which the urea/H2SO4 molar ratio is within the range of about 1/4 to about 7/4 sufficient to desiccate the foliage prior to harvest.
