摘要 PURPOSE: To accurately measure the brake torque by providing a device which receives torque produced on a friction element during brake operation and can be deflected to a power transmission path between the element and a torque bearing member to be deflectable by a load arising from the torque. CONSTITUTION: When a brake is operated as a result of engagement of a rotating drum with shoes 2, 3, a part 10A of a bridging member 5 receives the torque generated on the shoes to be a little deflected. Since deflection with order of 50μis generally produced in a space up to the preceding shoe with the respect to the rotating direction of the drum, the width of a gap 11 is changed, the change amount being proportional to the load applied to the member 5. Accordingly, the traveling distance of light reflected over the gap 11 is changed by the surface 11A. The deflection of the part 10A is shown as the change of intensity of light and as the change of quantity of light collected on a sensor on a sensor of an assembly 10. This is converted to an electric signal by an electronic device 14 to represent brake torque for operating the brake.
