PURPOSE: To obtain a transparent and elastic foil-shaped wound bandage, an excellent absorbent of exudates from a wound by using cross-linked hydrogel whose principal constituent is a combination of polyhydric alcohols, biopolymers and synthetic polymers. CONSTITUTION: Hydrogel according to the present invention is made from at least one 20-70wt.% polyhydric alcohol, at least one 10-35wt.% natural thickener (biopolymer), at least one or more 0.05-12wt.% at least one non-cross-linked copolymer of vinylcarboxylic acid and its salts, 0.05-10wt.% cross-linking agent and 0-50wt.% water or physiological saline. Glycerol is recommended as a polyhydric alcohol to be used alone or mixed with other polyhydric alcohols. These materials are properly stirred and heated to get homogenized to obtain an absorbent having high water vapor permeability, elasticity and flexibility, besides, able to absorb exudates from a wound rapidly over many hours.
