A method of sterilizing anthers comprises treating the plants with a sterilizing agent in combination with a diluent during the period of the fifth and/or sixth stage of organogenesis. According to the present invention, as the sterilizing agent terpenoid compound are used having the following general formula: 1A <IMAGE> <IMAGE> <IMAGE> <IMAGE> or mixtures thereof. The method of the present invention is useful in selection and seed production.
