In a pipe joint of a pipe end (10) to a sleeve (20) which can be pushed over it, a structural unit (30) is used as an annular seal, which is composed of an elastically flexible deformation body (25) and a dimensionally stable metal ring (15, 50), as one structural unit. In order to achieve a cost-effective and reliable pipe joint it is proposed that the sleeve (20) be constructed in the arrangement region of the sealing structural unit (30) as a smooth-surfaced cylinder (21) whose cylinder inner surface (22) encloses, with the jacket surface (11) of an inserted pipe, a continuous annular gap (14), of identical shape, for holding this structural unit. Located in the annular gap (14) is a metal casing (15) of the sealing structural unit (30), which projects radially from an annular bead (26) formed from the material of the deformation body (25), whose bead tip (46) deforms on the cylinder inner surface (22) when the joint is made. The remaining part (28) of the deformation body (25) is profiled in a tapered manner with respect to the pipe jacket surface (11) and has an outline (35) towards the cylinder inner surface (22) which is constructed to be smaller than, or at most equal to, the outline of the metal casing (15). <IMAGE> |
