An electric iron with a heating element in the sole plate uses a triac, which is controlled by an electronic thermostat, as a power switch. The thermostat is arranged in the handle but the triac is housed separately in an enclosed space at the end opposite to the iron point. This space is closed by a plate which is also used to upturn the iron when not in use. A thick metal plate on the inside carries the smaller cooling base plate with the triac. The circumference of this space is curved for use to wrap up the cable when not in use.. Such an iron is easy to mfr. and to service. It ensures a fast and reliable temperature control. |
