The ship navigation system provides a graphical display of position on a navigation chart. The system has inputs from a drift transducer (1) and a compass (2) that are interpreted by an on-board computer (3) to determine the velocity components of the vessel. Outouts are processed by binary multipliers (8,10), coupled to current stages (16,17) supplying drive stages (29,30) on a chart recorder (31). The pen produces a plot of the vessel's position on a navigation chart (53). An approximator (38) provides a correcting reput (39) to a non-linear converter (33) processing trigonometric functions. The produced plot is continuous over the range of the navigational chart.
