The jars are delivered to the machine on a tray and are packaged under a plastics film. The first operation removes the plastics film, carried out automatically by vertical and horizontal cutting blades. At this stage, the jars have their mouths facing upwards (A). After removing the packing, the jars are gripped around their necks and upturned. With their mouths facing downwards, the jars are held over a bank of air jets; these blow into the jars, any material being trapped by an auxiliary suction head. The jars are then returned upright.
