Freely mobile solids fluidised by the apertured floor (3) of a main container pass through the inlets (6) round the bottom edge of an internal generally conical chamber (4) to undergo intensive mixing d with )fluidising. At the centre of the inner chamber (4) is a vertical pipe (9) into which fluidised solids overflow to be discharged below the apertured main floor. in the inner chamber is pref. via peridoically alternating quadrants. The height of the pipe overflow entry aperture above the chamber base is at least 1/3, pref. at least 2.3 of its mean distance from the peripheral inlets (6), or can be adjusted to that level. At the aperture level, the )cross-section of the upwardly tapering conical chamber does not exceed 2/3 of the corresp. base cross-section. ADVANTAGE - Produces homogenous mixt. despite unsatisfactory factors e.g. lump formation.
