In cutting portions from a filter skin (2) or making division between successive lengths of a filler sausage strand by upper and lower pairs of jointly swivelling cutter arm (1,5 and 3,4), the upper pair are laterally offset from their equivalents in the lower pair. When the upper and lower arms are all moved sideways, maintaining their relative portions, to form a tapered tail (6) the resultant tail is practically free of filling before the usual clipping procedure. ADVANTAGE - Provides hygiencially desirable minimum amt. of filling in relatively exposed section.
