In order to be able to determine at all times the position of a treatment beam, even if the beam is invisible, and in particular the position of the focal point of the beam, a medical hand-piece is proposed with an exit aperture for a treatment beam of electromagnetic radiation, the beam being focussed on the far side of the exit aperture by means of optical means in the hand-piece. The hand-piece is characterized by a marker element whose position relative to the hand-piece changes as a function of the distance of the exit aperture from the surface of the part of the body being treated, the size of the marker element, or the location of a marker manipulated by the marker element relative to the hand-piece, changing as a result of this change in position.
