Gear-change aid for motor vehicle driver - uses electronic processing to computer gear-change positions with indication on dashboard instruments

The gear-change aid has a processor circuit with inputs from monitors on the engine and vehicle. The processor computes the optimum gear setting w.r.t. fuel economy etc. and displays same for the driver. The driver is able to control the gear-change manually with simple indication when to change up or down. The display can be digitised and uses visual and/or accoustic indicators. A simple indication has change-up and change-down signs, or indicators. Other indicators provide illuminated displays around the speedometer or on the r.p.m. counter. Other parameters taken into account include temperatures, laoding, road gradients etc.. ADVANTAGE - Improved driving control possible; can be fitted to existing vehicles.
