Heat is exchanged between two media flowing in meander fashion through the alternate gaps in a set of plates (1,30) welded or brazed together, or held in contact by terminal pressure plates (26,28) supporting the set on a base support (24). The media path through the structure is such that both inlet and outlet terminals (32,34; 36,38) for both flowing media are formed in only one of the terminal plates, and lead directly into the terminal gap (11,12) between the last two exchanger plates at that end. Inlet and outlet terminals are pref. near one edge of the terminal plate concerned. With a plate set having a fixed and a mobile pressure plate, the media terminals are formed in the fixed plate. ADVANTAGE - Terminal arrangement is simplified, and no terminals require removal before the mobile pressure plate is released.
